Paulette James was born in Crewe, Cheshire on 3rd October 1976 where she spent most of her childhood. She moved to London in 1995 to study American and Film/Television studies at Brunel University in Twickenham. Graduating in 1998 with a 2:1 Honours degree.

Paulette made several short films whilst working as an in-house runner for Blink Productions in Soho. This experience was a fortunate opportunity for her as she was able to learn preparation skills from the directors and saw their different approaches.

The films were shot on mini-DV and edited on Final Cut Pro. “Late Run” was the first of these projects. A simple story shot in black and white with a Hitchcock inspired atmosphere. A promo shot in Brighton for the band Little White Lie followed, then “Game On” for a 48 hours weekend challenge set by the Ritzy cinema in Brixton. “Simone Moans” is a black comedy set in a London pub and “Roots” looks at the dilemmas black women face deciding what to do with their hair.

In June 2004 Paulette was hired by Documovie to director a three minute promotional video for the Livity School in Brixton. Paulette continues to write in her spare time and plans on making a feature film in the near future.
